In River of Many Sides, two performers bring to
life the experience of ordinary people in a time of turmoil, through the
creation of a live stage performance in a virtual world. This world was
created using footage recorded in the United States and Vietnam as well
as imagined, digitally created landscapes. In an era which foregrounds
technology's use in war and in entertainment, this project puts it to
use as an expressive medium which can raise questions and demonstrate
alternatives.
To create this work, five artists lived briefly within each other's cultures,
reflecting on the complex and changing relationships that have occurred
in the United States and Vietnam over the last half century.
