Chicago’s loop is one of the most heavily surveilled areas in the world. In the wake of 9/11, the US government has taken an unhealthy interest in our reading habits. The siting of this show at the former home of the Chicago Public Library inspired this work, which interleaves “suspicious” book listings with surreptitious views of Cultural Center visitors. Located on the highest flight of stairs on the Randolph Street side of the Cultural Center, it can be seen from either the third or the fourth floor landing, or the stairs themselves. It premieres on November 15, 2006 as part of the Site Unseen show.
