Introduction to Programming* 36-1501

Class provides an introduction to computer programming theory and concepts for students with little or no previous experience. Students learn structure, syntax, logic, and the difference between object-oriented and procedural systems.

Students will be able to...
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills by mapping out simple programs 
  • Demonstrate their knowledge of the terminology, syntax and concepts of computer programming in a non-language specific way through pseudo code and flow-charting. 
  • Use algorithms and flowcharts to develop the instructions in the solution of a problem 
  • Use computer coding techniques and logic structures to develop solutions to problems Define the difference between a procedural solution and an object-oriented solution 
  • Use object-oriented concepts in the design of a solution to a problem
