Character Visualization for Games 36-1600

This course is on one hand a traditional drawing course, trying to assist students in their knowledge of line, value and perspective when dealing with observational drawing, while on the other hand, it is a course designed to assist in the transition between the analog and the digital world.

Prereqs: 36-1300 Digital Image Design

Students will be able to...
  • Be able to better understand the figure geometrically, spatially and understand the skeleton and musculature  
  • Build and develop a character based off of preliminary sketches as well as storyboarding that character  
  • Consider the portrait and self-portrait  
  • Develop a new set of skills with mediums such as ink, charcoal, graphite, gouache and watercolor as well as a familiarity with Motion Capture, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and Flash.  
  • Keep a sketchbook  
  • Learn abstraction and expression through line, form and color  
  • Understand line, value, perspective, and color theory and how that relates to both analog and digital media  
  • Understand the move to Motion Capture and the 3D world from a 2D beginning.  
  • Work to create a mature body of work
