Memorial for IAM Faculty, Christopher J. Sorg, 1970-2007, Friday 10/19
A memorial service for Christopher Sorg has been planned for Friday
October 19th from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm at the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago's ballroom. The SAIC Ballroom is located at 112 South
Michigan Avenue. We invite you to attend.
Christopher James Sorg, 36, of Chicago, Ill., died Wednesday, July 25,
2007 at Swedish Covenant Hospital, Chicago.
He was born July 29, 1970 in Port Clinton, OH to Tom and Diana (Lutz)
Sorg. Chris was a 1988 graduate of Oak Harbor
High School, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Art from the University of
Akron in 1995, his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the
University of Akron in 1996, and his Masters in Fine Arts in Painting
from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000.
Chris was an instructor at Loyola University in Chicago in the
Department of Communication, Columbia College Chicago in the Interactive
Arts and Media Department and the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago in both the Visual Communications and Art and Technology
departments. He was also a sound and visual artist, specializing
in new media. He worked as a freelance designer, illustrator, and
developer on a variety of commercial projects in his spare time. In 2003
he was awarded an artist residency at Experimental Sound Studio in
Chicago. His multimedia works have been shown nationally and he
performed live and on the radio around the country.
Chris loved art, music, teaching, running, and having philosophical
discussions. He was also well traveled and a humanitarian, rescuing
stray cats and taking them to local shelters where they could be cared for.
Survivors include his parents Tom and Diana Sorg of Oak Harbor, sister
Jenny (Rudy) Ramos of Bowling Green, niece Sabrina Ramos, paternal
grandparents, Don and Patricia Sorg, and maternal grandmother Janette
Lutz, all of Oak Harbor, and girlfriend Maria Astudillo of Chicago. He
was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Bernard Lutz.
His parents have created a Christopher J. Sorg Art and Music Memorial Fund
